Default MOT warning

For those of you that fit this situation
Have a bike three years old or over i.e. subject to MOT
  • Have modified high level exhaust
  • fitted minicators on rear cos of exhaust position
The mot tester will look at the bike at about a 45 deg side angle, not square on from rear and in most cases will not be able to see your indicators!

If you look at my avatar the cators are visible - but not from a side angle.

Always refit original exhaust for MOT!!

Mind you it meant I had to do an additional 45 mile round trip for a retest - shame

Nah.

You need to change your tester. Mine takes safety very seriously and enjoys showing me some the the embassments people have brought in for a ticket.

But at the same time knows that cans, indicators, reflector requirements are minor irritations that were not present when tha bike was tested.

In other words "You had the original can, when I tested it. Right". "Of course"

Ok message received - need to change MOT tester. This was my first MOT. Perhaps it was because I criticised them for overtightening my chain when the fitted new tyres on Saturday!

Bike Treads - Kembrey Park Swindon

Very friendly and reasonably priced otherwise. Front and Rear tyres Metz M-1 £180 all in?

Would'nt be getting my custom anymore. What a jobsworth fanny. Plenty of places do MOT testing not just specific bike places.

For an extra £20, Z6's.

Not sure how the two compare, but Z6's be my personal preference.

I'd call that a safety issue, I'd not have indicators that can't be seen myself. All personal choice of course... My tester'll overlook all sorts of things that ought to fail, but something like that I reckon he'd not be happy about- there's a big difference between passign a can that's loud, and passing a can that's possibly not safe.

Oh aye, that's not too bad a price fo rthe M1s if it was ride-in, ride out... They're good tyres, older model now so they can be found for cheap but still very good.

i agree with northwind, a loud can arguably just makes your bike a little more antisocial, but being unable to see the indicators makes it dangerous for YOU, i wouldnt be comfy knowing that cars could see my cators, they dont see you as it is without giving them an excuse.

but thats just my opinion, if your happy then fair enough.

Good comments but its not so serious in my case. It did take him a few minutes to decide upon it and I don't really think it was an issue (IMVHO).

I did put the baffle back in the pipe beforehand as advised when I was getting the tyres fitted, you would think he could have mentioned the cators then. That's what makes me think it was because I complained about my chain. He claimed they didn't touch chains during tyre replacements but I saw him do it!! Just didn't think to check tension when I rode off.

Trumpets run a slack chain at about 35 - 40mm or thereabouts as apposed to 25 - 35mm for most Jap bikes. The chain had NO slack in it when I checked having arrived at Abergavenny on a ride out with Beenz!

All adds to life's experiences

Ive got the standard indicators on my daytona, with the high level can, i can understand why youve put smaller ones on, as my right hand indicator is now melted from the heat (blue flames poping out type thing)
