Damn banks!! - I'm depressed

The sale of my house completes tomorrow and the solicitor will be paying the £££'s into my account at the same time. Today I decided to ring the bank and ask them when I would be able to draw on the cash.

The nasty, evil, harpy-of-doom at Natwest customer services told me that it will take one working day for the money to be available and that because the transfer was happening on a Friday that would mean the money wouldn't be available till Monday!!

I was really hoping I would be able to pick the K7 up on Saturday and have the entire weekend to get to know her - alas it's not to be

I did have a bit of good news later when StreetBike rang me and told me that the lower fairings and crash bungs were ordered but it didn't really make up for the lost weekend.

I'm gonna be depressed now for the next 3 days

Is Saturday not a banking day now then?

And how much interest do Natwest gain in the space of time??????????

Use your debit card, I've never had a problem with limits on my debit card, even though the same card is limited to £100 cheques.

If it's refused in the shop "Ah crap, funds must not of cleared yet, I thought they would, I'll pop back in on monday & sort it out with you guys." If it's not refused in the shop, you get a weekend of riding.

You don't get if you don't try Maybe NatWest are covering their backs because funds MIGHT NOT clear in time, and they don't want to shoot themselves in the foot.

If your solicitor puts funds in early friday (and not end of the day friday) then there's no reason why they shouldn't be available Saturday. This of course assumes he's paying BACS, whereas he might be paying CHAPS, which has it's own rules etc.

Kick up a stink. If the Solicitors' pay the proceeds of sale to your account via a Telegraphic Transfer (ie Chaps and not Bacs) at a reasonable time tomorrow, this will be 'cleared funds' (the reason a not insubstantial fee is paid to the bank for this 'service')
