Easy removal of the adapter. It pushes the little spring in that locks the adapter in place. You shouldn't break off the spring as it holds the adapter in the mount. Then you screw on the lens. You can remove it without the key using a flst head screw driver though.

There's one going on ebay with the spring missing so it's cheap, will probably pick that up as I was planing on leaving the adapter on the lens.

But the spring is to hold the adapter in the mount not to the lens. You will turn the focus ring and end up taking the lens off the camera. I've got a genuine Pentax one somewhere. Right, the OE is on my MX with my Flek, but I have one I can send with your Flek.

Hmm various places on t'internet said just take the spring off, and jam the adaptor on the lens thread tight. Is it screwed to the adaptor?

What's the problem with the Electro 35, Kenzie? Isn't the shutter speed changing with different light levels?
It should wind on with a soft thud rather than a metallic clunk. Problems here are usually due to the 'pad of death' issue, which mine had.

JR, the spring is to lock the adapter into the camera mount. Then you simply wind the lens on to it. No idea why they would say to remove the spring.

Yoko, its more of a click rather than a soft noise. Maybe it has POD because the shutter speed doesn't change no matter the aperture or iso.

Just what I read. I don't have any other M42 lenses so it turns the lens into a PK. Don't worry about it, I'll sort something out.

Sounds like the pad Kenzie. One way of checking is by removing the base plate and checking as per this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4AWGdFJPpI.
Otherwise, remove the top plate and have a look.
Suggested repair with easy access is half disassembling the camera and removing the whole lens assembly and front. Complex!
Otherwise you can do it from the top with bent pins and paperclips. Less hassle but finicky. it took me a few attempts spread over a couple of days. I got some instructions from John Goodman re the fix. PM me your email and I'll forward them to you.
