dB levels
Just seen on track days exhaust dB levels, 98 or 105 dB. How do I know my dB level before I get there? And what if it's louder? I have an Art can on the bike.

Re: dB levels
I am by no means what so ever - I've only done one track day, but it was a limited noise day (95).
They basically said in teh briefing that if you were found to be too load then you couldn't go out. However, I never saw anyone pulled - there were full blown race bikes out there with pipes louder than a really really loud thing. I pinched a mates db meter to measure mine (CCC) and it was nearing the 95 limit, so I swapped it back to the standard can just incase.

Re: dB levels
Once a guy measured our Art can, now on Seans, at 108 DB.
I reckon the bike may actually be quieter without any can fitted. |

Re: dB levels
It also depends if its a static test or balls out flying down the main str8!
With focussed events, at Brands they test the bike stationary at, I think, 5500 rpms (for twins). I have a M4 full race system and easyly get passed. However, at Donington they have a decible meters somewhere out on track. Failed and had to pay $35 for a baffle from some geezer in a transit. another 40 odd people got caught out as well. Nice little earner. |

Re: dB levels
From previous car trackdays I have been to the majority have a static noise meter and test at a certain rpm. You then get a sticker which a marshall will check for before allowing you out of the pit lane.
I was just about to start up a similar thread. If I was to get tested at the start of the day with both baffles in, then decided to remove 1 or both, would I likely get collared? |

Re: dB levels
I got pulled once on a FZR400 race bike, had a full Vance & Hines race system but it churned out 109dB. Sounded fantastic to all except the jobsworth on the sound meter.
Since then I always carried a chopped down R6 end can (or you could just carry a stock end can for an SV) just in case. After one session with the R6 can fitted the guy at the sound testing station buggered off and I switched it back for the rest of the day. he he |

Re: dB levels
109dB! weren't your ears bleeding? Mine on a full Akro system is pretty noisy but my mate's identical bike was tested at Snett at 101dB. Depends on the track really, at Mallory they threaten it but at Donny they are strict on 98dB.
