Tinted visors illegal - why?
Anybody know? As far as I'm aware, a car driver can wear an eyepatch, 3 pairs on sunglasses and a balaclava whilst driving, so why can't we wear tinted visors? I don't think there are any laws prohibiting kit car driver from using them? We're also allowed to wear sunglasses underneath, or use the helmet-integrated tinted visors. So, why not simply make a E stamp for visors too?
Correct me if I'm wrong in any of this. I would be up for starting a petition if anyone agrees. |

You can wear a legal tinted visor....not a black racing one....when its daylight.
Or just get a helmet with an internal sun visor.....problem solved

Re: Tinted visors illegal - why?
The way I think of it is if you're driving then you can take your sunglasses off & the windscreen is still there. If you've got a dark visor & you stay out past your bedtime so it's dark then you either have the wind blasting in your face or impared vision.
Thats why I tend to take my normo visor with me too when I've got a tinted one in. Just in case! |

Not a good link.
You can't flick of a visor when you go in a tunnel. Not even if its a dark pin lock. Dual visor lids are a plenty. Admitadly you look allot cooler.with a black or mirrored one.

Re: Tinted visors illegal - why?
From another forum:
up to 25% tint is legal. legal ones can be identified by e mark on them, and police carry devices for testing tint in glass, so they can tell. having said that they usually don't bother as long as you are carrying a clear one, and are not wearing the tinted at night or in poor visibility conditions. |

Re: Tinted visors illegal - why?
Cars with tinted screens/side windows are breaking the law and plod will tell them to remove tint film etc.
So same rules apply to visors as windscreens. No tint. Most bike cops know how we suffer from sunlight issues and accept dark visors for daylight use. I have a dark "race" pinlock and carry a clear insert for shirty cops

I have a flip down sun visor, best of both worlds! Don't know what I'd do without it now

Re: Tinted visors illegal - why?
I have a clear visor but a dark pinlock that isn't road legal. I carry the clear one should I need to change it but I've never felt the need and I've done plenty of night riding
