Re: Need help
Ola!
Well, a 650 engine should go straight in (99-02 for ease of wiring). You'd want a 650 ignition unit, as the rev-limiter on the 400 is set higher and could cause extra stress on the 650 motor. To make it equivalent to a 650 you'd want that 2nd brake disc at the front but I wouldn't worry too much Jambo

The casings should fit in. Think the stators and wiring swap fine.
Not sure about carbs. Maybe you'll need those from 650 too but no idea.

Nope, the item that sends the pulse to the coils, you'll often see it listed as a CDI unit, though the SV doesn't use CDI technology, which is somewhat old-school now.

Re: Blown up 400, what's needed to use 650 engine?
That's good advice that. Any engine swap becomes a hassle but a bigger engine can be a sod to insure even when it's basically just an SV650. May well work out uneconomic.
You might be able to sell the "cdi" to an optimistic tuner btw, as jambo says it'll run a 650 motor but it raises the rev limit. Which is good, unless it all explodes itself, when it becomes less good
