According to a post on Visor Down a fatal accident occured during free practice, Ollie Bridewell was the rider involved, a very sad day.

Went on Sunday, some good racing.
We had a sweepstake on what lap Kio would crash in race 1. In the morning practice session he was all over the place at Edwinas, several trips down the "escape route" an even one or two across the grass. Very sad about Ollie Bridewell

We were amazed he stayed on as long as he did !
