Only thing I would worry about is you blowing the grease out of the middle and replacing it with water. You may end up with a lovely looking chain seized up with rust.
Maybe not now but in a few thousand miles when O rings get a bit baggy and start letting water in.

Just dont go mad, adjust the pressure washer so its a spray rather than jet and hopefully it wont force water past the seals. Just a suggestion....

You can blast the grease out of wheels bearings etc. so I don't see why not the chain too. Also flay the paint off wheels, engine casings etc. Chains are fairly dirty things. If you don't like that then I think you can get some chain lubes like the one my mate had, Yoshimoto I think? Left it looking like it'd been spray painted gold. Only downside was that it was about as good as paint at working as a chain lube.

+1
30,000 miles of gear oil (ep140 i think) brush on, flings off dirt too

Well, had a look yesterday and there is grease EVERYWHERE!

Thinking about going to Halfords and herrings some 'gunk'. Can I paint this on the chain?

I always nicked a bit of the cleaner from our parts washer and use paint brush to clean, then coat the chain with EP 75w90 gear oil.
Worked a treat on all my old bikes

Just use parafin, £5 for 4 litres and works better than gunk, also it is what it recommended by the chain manufacturers.

Gunk is more for baked on crud on car engine blocks, far more expensive and bloody stinks

So can I use parafin for getting the oil off the rear wheel, all plastics, metal work and obviously the chain?

I'm not interested in going buying 5 products, I just want one..

Correct, and it's cheap as chips at about £5 for a 5 litre tub that will last you ages.

Look for it in your DIY store either next to the large tubs of white spirit & turpentine in the painting section, or in the garden centre with the fuel for garden heaters. Sometimes branded "Parasene"
