idle thought
We need insects but they don't need us.
It's a pity they are dying out. https://phys.org/news/2019-07-insect...-watchers.html The internet may be the greatest thing ever but at times ignorance is bliss. |

Re: idle thought
I was looking at this article earlier today. It's something I've been following for some time now. Largely agricultural practices and pesticides, along with (around here anyway) the constant mowing of verges.

Re: idle thought
That's why my garden looks like a disused demolition site... for the wee beasties!
That's an overstatement, but by not "cleansing" your garden you'd be surprised to see the number of insects beneath a small pile of leaves or grass clippings or bits of rotting wood (my garden shed!).

Re: idle thought
We have a hedge along bottom of garden ( bordering a heritage steam railway track with plenty of trees - a proper wildlife corridor ) this means places for insects, birds nests and the hedgehogs can come and go, all our neighbours have the usual 6 foot panel fence with gravel boards, no good to man nor beast and easy to climb... most people do not think of nature when planning a garden, just loads of paving and fencing that act as barriers to wildlife.
