Default High Idle Speed after 15mins riding

After my bike has been running for 15mins approx, the idle speed rises to sit between 2000 up to 3000rpm. Have tried adjusting idle speed but it wont lower. Also the throttle seems to snap back OK but the revs don,t reduce a bit scary when going around bends! Also when sitting at lights if I open the throttle slightly the revs rise but don't return to normal when throttle is closed.

Anyone have any ideas, I have tried lubing the cables but no joy.

Thanks

First, welcome to the madhouse!!

Your high idle could be due to throttle return cable not being tight enough, or the throttle pull cable being too tight. Easy test for this is when you have the high idle, try forcing the throttle shut a little by hand. Do the rev's dip? If they do, this is your problem.

Other than that, it could be the cold idle lever sticking (the lever near the throttle bodies). Hand in the left side of the frame next to the idle screw and push the lever back - revs rise, can you push the lever forward any, and does it spring closed properly?

Failing that, if it's not adjusting on the manual screw, then it could be the ECU that's faulty.

Don't the pointies all have automatic fast idle instead of a lever?

T'is not quite that simple.

The manual screw esentially stops a lever moving back too far (thus setting a static minimum level). Fast idle is controlled on my K6 by further offsetting this lever.

The throttle can then extend the lever more, but it springs back to it's stop point (denoted by adjuster screw + ECU).

Lol, I was going to suggest resetting the carb plunger but then I realised it's a pointy. Silly me.
