Gearchange lever return spring
Hi All
After having my curvy off the road for a while I'm ashamed to say I seam to have neglected her a bit, sorry SV gods. Anyway main question here is the gear lever return spring doesn't seam to be doing it's job. Had a look through the Haynes to see if I could fix this myself (only partially competent with spanners), and it looks like there is quite a lot involved. How difficult a job is this likely to be? Advice and / or suggestions please. |

Re: Gearchange lever return spring
Far more likely to be an issue with the lever pivot than the spring.

Re: Gearchange lever return spring
You check haynes
That part runs on a bearing... inside engine with lots of oil. You do not need grease there. That should be pretty obvious if you've looked at the side of the motor... Gear lever on footpeg is right

Re: Gearchange lever return spring
all seems free and moving looking from the outside.
Can't feel any friction or resistance when moving the lever, dam thing just won't spring back. |

Re: Gearchange lever return spring
Does it spring back if you remove the lever/link rod and play around with the link on the end of the shaft?

Re: Gearchange lever return spring
Good stuff. There's only a few places it can go pete tong, the lever is the main culprit especially when it's been left a while.
If you crashed it, you could have bent your rod a bit, this can be painful to remove (Matron!). Or from use and if lever is fine you could have snapped spring but this is more rare.

Re: Gearchange lever return spring
I am also suffering from a sticky shaft (he he), it's been parcked up for a while and now I have problems when going down through the gears. To get around it I have to lift the lever up (as if I'm trying to go up a gear, but not lifting it all the way) before trying to go down the next gear!
I shall investigate the cause next weekend!

Re: Gearchange lever return spring
Right my shaft seems fine (oh this is going to get worse isn't it).
Took the push rod off from the foot peg end and changed gear by hand using the push rod and everything works fine. Then took the foot peg assembly off to try and move the gear leaver around it and altho it dose move it seems very stiff. I presume I can separate the gear lever from the rest of the peg assembly and clean / grease it up? I take it I am going down the right track here? Please correct if not. |
