Default TPS adjustment

Sorry if this is redundant. I found no explination in searching, just references to TPS adjustment.
What is it? Benefits? Is it DIY-able?
Thanks

Hi,

Its in the How to's in the original website - www.sv650.org, click how to's

I tried it this weekend - got all the kit, took the seat off, tank up, pillion seat off, made my dealer tool, plugged it in, went to adjust the TPS and realised I only had a T25 torx, NOT security torx bit!!! Doh!!!

Good luck with it, and let us know how you get on.

Billy.

Ahhh... Throttle position sensor, that makes sense. I've only had the bike a few days so I'll look into doing that after the 600mi service. Sounds straightforward. Thanks!

What benefits would TPS adjustment bring? I thought it was a kind of potentiometer that told the ECU how hard you've opened the throttle etc.

Please educate me

Smoother fuel delivery at low revs. The TPS tells the FI unit when to kick in basically.

By default, you get a surge of power around 3000 RPM, moving the position of the TPS counters this.

The TPS primarily controls low RPM ignition timing.

This is not the default setting, if it were that'd be where the manual would tell you to adjust it to. The TPS doesn't counter anything and the recommended setting is just that - the right one. If yours 'surges' or any other less than happy behaviour at 3000rpm, then the setting is off and needs to be adjusted to set it right. That is back to the standard and correct setting.

My knowledge on the subject was taken from this thread. IMO, 3000 RPM is too high for the setting, and it feels a lot better setting it lower. Throttle freeplay also plays a big part in the snatchy feeling (ie, if the throttle cable is slightly too tight mainly).
