i have made three stops for the day plus a Fuel Stop. 1st at Oban Tesco 41 miles and 1hr, 2nd at Crinan for lunch 42 miles and 1hr15min, 3rd at Lochgilphead for petrol 6.5miles 15min, 4th at Tyndrum Green Welly 52.5 miles and 1hr10min. i have been generous with the stop times at 30min each, 15min for a splash and dash for fuel and 1hr for lunch. we should get back to Kinlochleven for 5:30pmish

if you would like another stop at Inveraray between Lochgilphead and Tyndrum then i can put that in as well but there is a festival at Inveraray and it might be mobbed. this will increase the end of the run to 6pmish.

i have changed the fuel stop that Fordward had at Lochgilphead to the petrol station just as you enter as its bigger and easier to get in and out.

The Route in text:

Glencoe Massacre IX Ride Out

Foreword: We are all adults and able to find our own way to places. The route is easy and nobody should get lost. There is only one junction on the whole route that can be missed if not paying attention and that is the turn off for Crinan as it creeps up on you.

First Stage: Stopping at Oban for a 30min rest. 40.50 miles 1hr+30min
Turn LEFT out of the McDonald Hotel car park then along to the end approximately 8.75miles then turn LEFT onto the A82 and across the Ballachulish Bridge. After approximately 0.87 miles at the roundabout turn 1st exit LEFT onto the A828.

Continue on the A828 approximately 26 miles until over the Connel Bridge then turn LEFT onto the A85.

Continue on the A85 approximately 4.3 miles to Oban and down to the roundabout and take the 1st exit LEFT (this part will be very busy with stop start traffic as you go through the middle of the town) continue straight on for approximately 0.5 miles until you get to the large roundabout with the monument and take the 1st exit LEFT (keep left) onto the A816 for Campbeltown/Lochgilphead after approximately 600yds you will reach a set of traffic lights turn RIGHT on to Lynn Road and go past ALDI down to the mini roundabout and turn LEFT then RIGHT at the next one (its a twin roundabout) the entrance for Tesco car park is on your RIGHT a little way down.

Second Stage: Stopping for lunch Crinan. 36.50 miles 1hr15min+1hr
From Oban Tesco go back out the way you came in but turn RIGHT at the traffic lights onto the main road A816.

Continue on the A816 for approximately 28.2 miles till you get to Kilmartin and then take it easy for the next approximately 1 mile then turn RIGHT onto the B8025 (this is sign posted as Tayvallich/Crinan with a big brown tourist sign underneath it) this junction is easy to miss.

Continue on the B8025 (this roads is single track) till you reach the bridge and turn RIGHT onto the B841 (this turns into a single track road after a very short distance and gets worse as you get further up so take it easy its not a race) and continue straight on without deviation for approximately 2.3 miles. at the bottom of the hill turn LEFT into the car park.

Third Stage: Petrol Lochgilphead, Tyndrum for a 30min rest. 52.50 miles 1hr25min+30min
Turn RIGHT out of the car park and make way along the road you just came but instead of turning at the bridge keep going straight on. After approximately 4.8 miles you will cross a canal swing bridge then continue straight on for 0.25 miles then turn RIGHT onto the A816.

Continue on the A816 for approximately 1.5 miles and you will see a petrol station on your LEFT, stop and fill up here.

Turn LEFT out of the petrol station and continue on the A816 for 0.5 miles at the roundabout take the 1st exit LEFT onto the A83 for Lochgilphead/Glasgow, continue 0.3 miles and take the 2nd exit at the roundabout continuing on the A83, continue 0.3 miles and take the 2nd exit at the roundabout and continue on the A83.

Continue on the A83 for 24 miles till you reach Inveraray sea front, there will be a car park on your right more than likely with some bikes in it and continue on for approximately 140 yards and turn LEFT at the big white hotel which takes you onto the A819 through an archway.

Continue on the A819 for 14.5 miles then turn RIGHT onto the A85 Crainlarich/Dalmally.

Continue on the A85 for 12.85 miles then turn RIGHT onto the A82 Tyndrum/Crainlarich then after 300 yards turn into the Green Welly car park which will more than likely be full of bikes if the weather is nice. Alternatively park opposite in the layby at the phone box as its much easier to get back onto the road.

Fourth Stage: Kinlochleven. 37.50 miles end time around 5:40pm
Turn RIGHT out of the Green Welly Car Park onto the A82 (Fort William) and continue for 30.3 miles to Glencoe then turn RIGHT onto the B863 Glencoe Village/Kinlochleven continue for 7.2 miles till you reach the final destination, McDonald Hotel on your LEFT.
