Default A discovery- monkeying about with Veypor kit

I got myself a Veypor ages back, but I've not used it for a while- decided to set it back up at the weekend. Well, it turns out the wiring harness isn't quite as durable as it should be- fuse holder had corroded, and the magnet pickup had a big short in it and melted Then, it's been fitted and neglected for about 2 years. So, got my head down an bit and discovered that the Veypor pickup is almost exactly the same as the OEM SV pickup- The veypor has a 12v, 5V and earth while the SV has a 12V, 6V and earth. Nothing to lose as the harness without a pickup isn't any use anyway, so I wired it into the stock speedo pickup and lo and behold, it works.

Now, that's probably only of interest if you want to spend your money on a Veypor, since while it's a cool wee toy I wouldn't consider it any more than that. But, turning it around it should be the case that you can use the Veypor pickup (without the rest of its control box for tach etc) as a speedo pickup for the stock clocks. It's a dinky wee thing, much smaller than the magnet kit sold on SV Rider, and much easier to do a neat install with. The bike harness is £36.75- not sure if it comes with magnets but they're easy to source:

I can't test this, unfortunately, since mine melted I suspect it had let water in. But that's easily prevented. The pickup's tiny, less than a cm square plus the wiring, which compares rather well with the massive kit that I bought (but never fitted) for the speedo relocation.

Ah hah, a further discovery- can't run both off the pickup at the same time. At least, not by just wiring them together. Ah well. I'm sure anyone with a clue about electronics could make it work, though.
