Why would you want to fit a narrower tyre? The rear tyre of the SV isn't exactly huge as it is.

As above.Motorcycle makers test the geometry of their machines on test tracks and fit the tyres to suite the machines for road work and general release.

This does of course change for Track use but then most track bikes have modifications.

It will also slow the steering as it has a lower profile and will drop the rear.

It will fit but its not worth doing, 160's are so cheap anyway.

As an aside are there any advantages to fitting a larger tyre for track use?

There are better educated people on this forum than me when it comes to race setups but here's my 10 penn'th.

I wouldn't bother changing the width of the tyre as I doubt it would be beneficial.Pro Race teams have a lot of money and can change tyres/compound mid race to allow for changing conditions and tyre profiles to suit individual tracks. We don't have that luxury.

If I ever did race my SV or an SV I want the tyres this guy uses,
