Default Deposit down on new bike! This time next week...

....I will not be one of the SV crowd!

Thanks to all those that have answered the questions I have asked.

After going over the pros & cons of my chosen 3 bikes in the end it came down to one over riding factor!
Her indoors

No matter what, it was not worth the hassle lol I could not justify getting a 650 in any way.

So I will soon be the proud owner of a year old CBR250R with a thousand miles on the clock, took it for an hour test ride yesterday and I loved it, I know it will probably not be as good as an SV but it is a big step up from my 125! and will be more than adequate whilst I am on my restricted licence.

In the end I got the dealer down to £2850 and that includes part ex-ing my 2008 CBR125 in for a whopping £1750, only paid £1800 for it a year ago

Just the matter of sorting out the insurance and waiting a week!

So just one final question to you all, Do I need to declare the scottoiler that is fitted to it?

I would, Bennets class it as an add but some may say it doesn't matter. Better safe than sorry.

I work in the crash repair industry and see assessors day in , day out. They will try to find anything they can that would invalidate your insurance, thus meaning they don't have to pay out in the event of an accident.

There was a young lad once with an old ford escort that was in a smash, the insurance company refused to pay out on the car because it had alloys, I explained to the assessor that they were standard and he said it's irrelivent as the driver didnt report to us when the insurance was taken out.

So my advice id tell them everything, even your inside leg measurement, remember insurance companies are fastening there belts, so better safe than sorry!

Glad you'v got a bike sorted anyway mate & you could always restrict the sv when you get one to get used to it.. new bike feel and all that though youl be used to the speed anyway,

& yes * when you get one * because you will one day !! amuahaaha

Depends what you mean by "not as good". Loads of fun to be had wringing the neck of a 4stroke 250 .

Going from a 125 to a 250 used to be a very normal thing to do.

I'm please for you mate !! I'm only 18, started on a 50cc 4 stroke scooter, went onto a 125 2 stroke supermoto (same horsepower as your CBR250) and then got my SV. really not a bad way to go. The only difference you will find between your CBR250 and a restricted SV is that it feels really powerful on the SV even though you're accelerating about the same and this is because of the torque. You will also get about 15mph more top end on a 33bhp SV. I had 115mph out of mine !!!!!! Muahahahahaha

Nowt wrong with that choice mate, it'll be better build quality than an SV and last through the winter better as well.

The only new or newish bikes I had at your age were Honda's, I had a Suzuki too but it was old and rotten before I got it. When I got my SV I was shocked at the amount of rot it suffered in the first year. The Honda's didn't need to be smothered in ACF50.

It'll do you a year and by that time you'll be desperate to move up, but you'll have a years more experience too and maybe your other half won't be so worried about it.

Best way to gain her confidence is ride a year on that bike and DONT CRASH!

Just popped in to show you all the bike I got, only rode it home from the dealers today - did not want to risk any further as my insurance does not start until tomorrow

I declared the scottoiler on my insurance no cost, and then the dealer tells me on the way out that the previous owner wanted to know if I would like to buy the remus exhaust they had fitted to it!
decisions decisions......
