Here's hoping for a lottery win this week then! I hope there is someone with a crated RC45 out there for me to 'waste' my winnings on... If not, that RC30 will tempt me!

There are some far sighted dealers (or just plain lucky) out there.

Although the RC30 may have been rather different in that respect.

[1] Well apart from almost every part being different by being
lighter/smaller etc.

Indeed they do on the above models. On an RC30 the teeth are a full tooth out of alignment when the camshafts are removed. hence the need for a locking pin.
Getting the rattly one re-aligned on the bike I worked on was rather tricky, as the springs are of the King Kong variety, & require more than hand strength to get lined up.

Cheers.

A full tooth I presume you mean, having a look at them I can see how someone could just 'put' it in without setting the anti-rattle (I can also see the hole for the pin).

What you need are these instead

Oh and for everyone else, here's the rest of the engine.

No, you I guess you need to know what the standard looks (or works) like....

This may help

When my dad has his NC24 in bits, he picked up the transfer gears and showed me how they spun almost forever with just a little bit of input. We both stood there, in the back of the garage, just spinning the gears and marvelling at how beautiful it all was.

He has another NC24 engine which needs some major work, I would like to have it for the engine parts, all the beautiful little parts. It would be cool to throw a load of money at it and have all the parts super-finished (something I read about in performance bikes, "isotropic super finishing" and have some other bits and bobs done to make that standard engine as efficient as possible. Not sur what I'd do with it after, lob it in an RGV250 chassis and hope for the best?

The NC24 engine is identical to the NC30/35 engine WRT mounting, want an NC30 frame? I've got one spare in the shed!

The NC24 makes next to identical power to the NC30, infact the only two real differences are in the valve activation (shim over bucket for the 30/35 and tappet+locknuts on the 24) and its a 180 crank where as the 30/35 is a 360.

Also going back to the original topic, the same holds true for the RC30 over the RC24, the RC24 is 180 degree, the RC30 (and some very very rare RC24 race bikes from which the RC30 was based) are 360 degree.
