Default Gear Selection

Hi,

Great site, been reading the posts for a while but this is my first, I need a bit of advice.

I have been having problems gear selection, especially changing down. The gear change lever does not engage the lower gear but the bike stays in the original gear. I stripped the gear linkage down today and found that the gear change lever was almost sized solid.
I have read all the posts about gear selection problems, oil, cluch settings and chain Thay are teh next things on the list.

The main problem at the moment is the footrest mount on which the gear lever rotates is the problem, I have had it soaking in oil for most of the day but without any change. I think it needs to be taken apart. I tried most things but it has not moved. Can anyone tell me if it’s a press fit or is there some trick to dismantling it.

Is there anything else in the gear change linkage that I should watch out for?

Cheers

JPB

Remove the lever again and locate the split in the fibre bush on the inner surface of the lever, now very very carefully roll the bush up a bit and remove it from the lever. The inner surface of the lever will have some corrosion on it, which expands and makes the bush grip the pivot, file/scrape/whatever the corrosion away and grease the inner surface of the lever and refit the bush, check it turns freely on the pivot before re-assembling.

Be careful with the bush - it's not supplied separately.

Thanks very much for the help Sid Squid. worked fine. The corrosion was so bad every thing had jammed tight. Anyway got it apart eventually and cleaned everthing up reset the clutch cable and the gear selection works ok.
