Default Speedo sensor

Calling all those who've gixered their front ends. Which speedo work around did you use and how difficult was it. Also what does the finished article (pics if you have them) look like.

Regards
Phil

I shifted the speedo drive to the rear axle, which isn't an option you have unfortunately. You can get a speedo kit from Jim in the states, jim.l.martin@tektronix.com, it's not cheap for what you get but it's very easy. I also ran mine with a Veypor datalogger's speedo pickup, which worked perfectly but Stu tried the same and I don't think he could get it to work. (I coincidentally set my bike on fire during this process, but that wasn't my fault!

Yet another option is to use the pickup off a recent GSXR- but I don't know much about this one, not sure which year to use. They don't need the magnets as they can trigger from any ferrous material, but there's not really an ideal pickup on the SV for that as all the discs and sprockets have 5 bolts. Maybe you could use one titanium bolt and 4 steel. This one's maybe a better option if you've fitted a CBR rear wheel like a lot of the US guys have.

Figured you'd be first here Northy!

CBR rear wheel. No..... one mod at a time Phil!

What's in Jims kit and how much is it if you can remember?

So I take it the pick-up from the newer GSX-R's fit to the rear wheel?

Regards

Jim's kit is basically just a magnetic sensor and a set of magnets, and I think you might get a little ally bracket too. I think it's about $60, which as I say is far too expensive for what it is but it's a very simple option so there's a lot going for it.

The GSXR sensor works a bit differently to the SV one since it runs off the front sprocket, but it seems like it can be adapted pretty easily. I might look into this one a bit more, I'm going to need to change mine because of <sekrit modz> but I've got to work some stuff out first.

Plus you may get stung with a bit of import tax, I did when I got one of the kits. Northy is right about it being expensive for what it is and you could probably make a kit up yourself if you've got the means to make the bracket, I needed it sorted quickly so paid out for the kit

i'll see if i can find some pics of it fitted

From what i remember it looks fairly neat, on mine you couldn't really see it unless you were looking for it as it was bolted to the lower front caliper mount it's by no means a big thing to be bolting on

It turns out that Jim is no longer producing the kit. But I've got something just as good. A guy put together a magnificent write-up. Check this out... http://gregmli.blogspot.com/2007/05/...-end-swap.html
