Also check your chain tension, I know when mine is slack it can take a millisecond for the power to kick in off the throttle and so its jerky/laggy - I usually make it better by slipping the clutch until I next lube and adjust the chain.

Throttle bodies or carbs - balancing does exactly the same thing and by the same process. Curvies have TPS too, setting nowhere near as critical as FI bikes.
Throttle transitions on SVs can be awkward, they're like that, clearly having everything set correctly will minimise the difficulty in managing the throttle.
