Changing front master cylinder??
Hi,
I wanna change the master cylinder on my Gen 1 SV650 for something a bit more sporty as everyone knows the brakes arent that great on those! Anyone got any tips on what master cylinder to use? Something cheap but obviously better than the original please. Regards Mason |

Re: Changing front master cylinder??
Have you tried rebuilding the master cylinder?
Never had any issues with mine when it was done. Parts cost around 20 for the rebuild kit 15 for decent set of curclip pliers and a can of brake cleaner Sent from my E2303 using Tapatalk

Re: Changing front master cylinder??
Im running gsxr 750 calipers on original master cylinder and have no problems.
I know a lot of lad on the road racing circuit use the original master cylinder as an upgrade can be to much. So as said a rebuild might sort your problems. |

Re: Changing front master cylinder??
It depends on what spec class your running it in if racing, minitwins you have no option but to use the original, just make sure that the calipers are checked and the slide pins re greased, when the grease drys out the calipers stick and only the outer pad is making contact properly.
As smithereens said rebuild kit helps too. as does race fluid if your not using it. I have used a GSXR radial master cylinder on my SV race bike. i worked well and was a much improved mod. cost about £65 - £100 ish on eBay. |

Re: Changing front master cylinder??
Is that with the stock calipers CB500? What sort of improvement?

Re: Changing front master cylinder??
You can use a radial master cylinder from a GSXR, I tried one for a while and there's no question the brake action is different, but I wouldn't say it's better.
The weak spot is the calipers, I'm sure that doesn't come as a surprise.

Re: Changing front master cylinder??
i have used the SVS, GSXR k7-7 radial and a bandit 1250 MC. there is not much between them. i would say that i personally prefer the bandit 1250 as it has a nice 'feel' to it but still has lots of power. admittedly i use a gsxr radial front end so calipers are better, too good TBH. i also use DP pads which are the only ones that hardly fade in the wet on SS discs unlike the EBC which were dreadful.
if you want a better MC then pay the money and get something like a Brembo. |

Re: Changing front master cylinder??
Yeah no worries guys i've raced minitwins back in 2014 and 2015 so i know the regs like the back of my hand was talking about my road bike now.... going to have a look at the calipers this weekend maybe remove the pistons and clean and re-grease them first!
