I have an update....
I complained to the manufacturers (Bikeit) and they kindly swapped them for a pair of their Premier range and they are brilliant )
As far as I could see the others I bought weren't sealed at the seams, which were stitched and therefore let the water in there..

My Oxford Rainex is doing well at keeping the rain out, but the silver fabric is losing its strength on the side which gets direct sunlight and now tears easily.
