Default OMO. % by volume question

i'm usually not to bad when it comes to basic maths but i have a question for the more knowledgable amongst us as i think i'm wrong with my calculations.

it goes like this. if i have a liquid (coal tar solution) that is 200ml @ 40% and pour it into another solution (soap recipe) that is 1800ml to make a final solution of 2000ml would i end up with 4% or 0.4% or something else (coal tar) in the 2000ml?

my workings were
2000 / 200 = 10 then 40 / 10 = 4?
or
2000 / 40% = 0.4?
or
your calculations???

By my reckoning, I think you end up with 4% solution.

Working:
200ml @ 40% = 200 x 0.4 = 80ml of the "pure" substance
=> when diluted, 80ml is in 2000ml total, so
80 / 2000 = 0.04 = 4%

(This is assuming it's just basic mixing and there's no chemical jiggery-pokery etc. when you mix the two solutions.)

my assumption was 4%. i like the way you broke down to the 'pure' substance. i never thought of that.
