Default (Un)Comfortably Numb!

As my wife went out to do Mod1 training early on Sunday morning, I thought I'd go out at the same time. I was out for about five hours all told, the longest I've actually ridden in one go. By the time I got back I was stricken with Numb Bum Syndrome big time!!! The seat on the SV650 is quite soft but becomes a torture instrument to my anatomy after a couple of hours.

Anyway, I got a gel seat for it on Monday, which turns out to be much firmer so I'll have to see how it goes.

The other problem I have is that my knees get very cramped and uncomfortable. I'm 6ft tall so I guess I'm a bit too big for it really. Not going to stop me riding it though!

What do other people's parts feel like after hours in the saddle?

You do get used to the seat, whole day rides become a pleasure after a while.

As for your height, I'm 6"2' on a K5s, all I did was change the footpegs for ones off a Buell. It gives you an extra inch and a bit of leg space. If you're interested, I'll get a pic and the oart number.

I'm told cycling shorts are quite effective, something to do with the padding and the lack of seams in the wrong places....

Hi Bluepete, yes, I'd be very interested in seeing the Buell pegs. I love riding the bike and I'd like to go on longer journeys than Sunday morning blasts, so anything that makes it more comfortable for me would be great. Thanks very much!

Dunno? Is it a pointy or curvy?

Aha, you are the first person I have ever seen have exactly the same problem as I had with my SV. Mine was a 2006 pointy and I'm exactly 6ft tall.

After only 50 miles I would have the numbest bum and anatomy and be extremely uncomfotable, I would get pins and needle in places you just dont want it. (I'm trying to be as polite as possible here), without being crude, if you google Gooch that is the part that was subject to most extreme pains and aches and it effected both parts it sits between.

Just horrendous.

My 2000 naked curvey does the same to my posterior and knees. I never got round to sending the seat off to have the gel pads added under the cover as I meant to over the winter. Must do so at some point.

I'm only 5-10 so it's not just the taller rider that gets this problem with the knees.

Bluepete - can I ask why you've got a picture of a foot painted on your bike? It's clearly visible in the second picture above...

Bluepete, thanks again. I'm going to look up my nearest Buell dealer now. Do they need modifying in any way or do they bolt straight in?
