SV650 Twin Spark - Battery has life but bike is dead - SV650.org

Hi,
The bike's 2013 SV650S, used every week day including yesterday when it appeared perfectly normal up to and including when I parked and switched off. This morning it appeared stone dead, not the slightest glimmer from lights or indicators when switching on, no sound of the FI initialising, nothing.

This evening I've found that the battery has apparently plenty of life, main fuse on the starter relay is OK, so are the fuses I've checked in the fuseblock under the pillion. Battery voltage doesn't change when the ignition is switched on. That's as far as I've traced so far.

While I look out circuit diagrams, can anyone suggest known trouble spots that are worth checking in the first instance?

Please bear in mind that I am no electrical wizard, but if the battery voltage doesn't change at all when you switch on the ignition, and you get no lights or any sign of life from the bike, there's a complete lack of continuity somewhere. Not a short-circuit, as that would cause a massive draw from the battery.

I wonder if the ignition switch had died. Can you get the parking lights working via the ignition key (i.e. turning the key to the left)?

The only other thing I can think of at this point is disconnecting the battery terminals and cleaning up the battery posts and connectors.

ignition switch or loose battery terminals. battery would have to be well under 10v not to get lights.

I would guess the ignition barrel but... I had a similar problem with my curvy. It turned out to be the red wire on the plug that connects to the back of the starter relay. Worth a quick look

A regular fault giving these symptoms has been corrosion of connections within the ignition switch connector to the bike's loom. Search 'green connector'. Positioned just above the radiator , infront of the airbox, not easy to get to unfortunately!

Green connector it is. Will probably cut and solder as an immediate fix, look at a replacement multipin connector if I even need to detach or replace the ignition switch.

I ended up joining the problem conductor with a 4mm bullet, and for the meantime I've left the others in the connector. When I get some more bullet connectors I'll revisit and do them all, and also improve the routing. With the separate wires and bullet I didn't manage to get it routed around and under that cross bar as it was originally. I'll need to label or colour code the bullets in some way as the colours don't match between harness and switch.
