Re: hid lights
Most HIDs have two sets of wires coming out of the bit which is variously referred to as; control unit/ballast/black box. One set goes from the unit to the original headlight connector, the other set to the new bulb assembly, there's really not a lot of wiring.

Re: HID headlight wiring?
if its a pointy you can normally hide all of the wiring and the ballasts in the front fairing, I think he had it screwed onto the bolt from the front indicator just to keep it in place.
and yes there is less wiring than you would think |

Re: HID headlight wiring?
What sort of bike?
On my naked curvy I hid the ballast box inside the frame, and the relay in front of the carbs. Worked fine. Eventually I integrated it into the loom and put all relays on a plate under the seat, 1 for the lights, one for horn and another for everything else. The only thing that runs directly from the key is the ignition and triggers for the relays. Only problem with it is I've created a feedback loop in there somewhere, so if the lights are on and you switch the ignition off, the lights go out then flash again.

Re: HID headlight wiring?
Yes, they're brilliant.
Go for the coolest colour you can get, 6kK is a bit too blue for my taste. 4200K is fine, nice clean white light. You may have to trim the back of the headlight shell for the wire. The full ballast probably won't fit inside the lamp unless the new compact ones have moved on ridiculously quickly in the last year or so.

Re: HID headlight wiring?
Yes they are given a "colour temperature", the higher the K (Kelvin) number, the bluer the light. 8000K is very noticeably blue, 12000K is purple and horrible.
Like I say I would go for a 4200K one, as it's a nice colour and more efficient. You get less light for your amps with the hotter colours too. I actually have a 6000K one, it's alright but given the choice I'd go less blue.
