No frost fridge
Another epiphany. I have bought (ordered) a new fridge freezer since mine is 20 years old (and seems to be running most of the time).
I'd never thought about frost free fridges before but when you start to look at energy ratings you see a pattern. The only way a fridge freezer can be frost free is if it has a heater inside (obvious really, I suppose but an "oh" moment for me). Naturally if your fridge has a heater it is going to use more electricity. I decided I didn't need that and I'll just defrost it periodically (back to the good old days?) On a related note, did you know that they had changed the energy ratings (in March 2021) so that an appliance that was A+++ is now a D or an E? I investigated because I couldn't find any f/freezers above a C.

Re: No frost fridge
Good to know. I did wonder where the energy ratings would go after A++++

Re: No frost fridge
i got a frost free FF a few years ago after having my old one about 15 years. there is no way i would ever go back to defrosting. dont care that i might cost me a few pennies more a week.
what does pizz me off is that the new fridges are deeper than 600mm so dont fit right into fitted kitchens. |

I am with you there, most people don't realise that a build up of frost and ice makes the fridge or freezer less efficient anyway..

Re: No frost fridge
I'd advise against a Samsung fridge freezer. Had mine 5 years and now it hums a pulsating noise so loud I can hear it everywhere in the house. Even upstairs with earplugs in, trying to sleep

Re: No frost fridge
Our Samsung F/F is 12 years old and is the quietest we have owned. Its not far off from being the most reliable neither. Guess its the luck of the draw

Does that apply to A level results as well? I thought they had gone 0 to 9 but they still seem to refer to everyone and their dog now getting A++++++++ and rising. What we need is FF exams ( fudge free )..

Re: No frost fridge
There's a very helpful resource on the web for anyone who might be buying appliances: www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk
Has some interesting brand info: https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/...er-information (Samsung is actually a bit notorious, especially their fridges/freezers) Also some really useful articles (convinced us to ditch liquid laundry detergents and haven't looked back), and a forum. Well worth a look before spending your hard earned ££s.

Re: No frost fridge
That is a really good site, thanks for link. A company I worked for years ago made identical equipment with different covers and brand name on them, some customers swore by one brand and said others were no good, but the working bits were all the same. That is the power of brand names and why China is buying them all up, how many people buying an MG or Volvo realise they are Chinese ?
