Default left hand or right hand thread?

left hand or right hand thread?

Why not have both, on the same bolt:

Could see this being useful for bicycle pedal threads... the amount of times I've had someone come in with trashed threads inside £150 crank sets because they haven't realised the RH / driveside pedal is reverse threaded and have tried to fit the LH pedal in it.

Not sure how secure it would be though?

Do people ever ask you what size they are? Even though all but the rarest of cranks are 9/16in threads

Not very strong at all, seems to be a series of bumps on the male part and the shallow angle on the flank of thread that provides the tensile ( lock-down ) force is very shallow, the steeper ( stronger ) flank angle is on the wrong side - nice as a project and ingenious but probably useless in real life as the contact area(s) between nut and bolt is rather small.
