Default A new Plans-This-Weekend thread

Hi,

this weekend I'm biking down to Slaley Hall near Newcastle for a family gathering.

I have all of Friday afternoon to get there, so I'm looking for a nice route from East Kilbride to NE47 0BX.

Any suggestions let me know!

Anyone else got plans?

[Almost] exactly the route I'd take! except I've always gone the A68 through Northumberland national park. All the cameras point to the front so you can blast it on 2 mile long stretches all the way.

Is Shilling Pot a good/interesting road?

Almost any road you care to pick in the north Pennines is good. If your traveling home Sunday then take in the Hartside cafe on the way.

the only bit of road i have never been on is the stretch from bellingham to your destination. the rest is biking heaven. some of it is a bit technical and takes a fair bit of concentration (hawick to the turn off for kielder) but its worth it. if its pizzing down then i wouldn't bother and instead take the cliff road to galla then on down to the A68.

Slaley Hall - yeah know it's expensive. Mums birthday and huge gathering though so worth it!

Thanks guys, will do your route down!

Way back may blast it up the motorway depending on time

Even if it's chucking it, I have 5-6 hours to play with so will probably stick with it and take it easy

motorways are no fun.. if you want a fast road home that wont leave you knackered then take this instead..

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=...&sz=12&t=m&z=8

problems with motorways is you cant stop, you get cramp, your board out your skull and end up doing silly speeds.

The stretch from Bellingham is not as technical but is a lot faster and narrower
