Default Connector for new style Accumate 2

Hi,
My charger died, and I've replaced it with a new Accumate 2. I didn't spot that they now use a new heavier duty connector rather than the previous Tamiya type. Just wondered if anyone had a source for compatible connectors so that I can make up some adapters.

Ta in advance, Tony S

It will probably be a SAE connector. Something like this - http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/SAE-Accessories.html

3rd one down.

That's the one, SAE. Ideally what I'm looking for is a source for just the connectors themselves so I can make my own adapters. Second choice would be the SAE connector with attached cable with free ends so I can put my own fittings on.

It seems silly and wasteful to have to buy made up cables and cut off the other ends.

Worse case I suppose I could cut the SAE connector off the charger and fit a Tamiya connector instead, but that seems wasteful as well.

Motohaus will also sell the fly lead for the battery with an SAE connector too. I'm sure if you put SAE connector into eBay you will find a supplier.

So you're going to change the connectors on all of your bikes rather than just downgrade the one connector on the new charger?

Downgrading the connector on the new charger seems like the least wasteful option, if that is what you are after.

The new connector's much better than the old Tamiya connector, which although cheap and easy to make up is prone to corrosion of just generally falling to bits. Altogether I need connectors to charge five or six things varying from motorcycle to electric fence. Only one currently has a usable Tamiya connector at the moment.

If I could get the SAE connector on it's own I'd probably fit them to the car charger as well, for complete interchangeability.

So I'm kind of swithering. Maybe if I made up an SAE to Tamiya adapter cable I could continue to use the cheap connectors where it suits.

I have fitted newer SAE plug to both our cars and motorbikes and bought a 24 foot SAE extension lead, now everything fits everything. You can get SAE to cigarette / power socket adaptors as well, also because the new SAE socket can carry 15amps can use it to plug stuff into on your bike. Couldn't find 'do-it-yourself' plug / socket kits though.

Same here, they seem to only be made moulded onto the cable. One option might be to buy extension leads and cut them in half, each lead then makes two general purpose SAE to free end cables that could then be fitted where they're needed.

i'll save you some misery. i have been searching for years to find self assembly SAE connectors and come up blank. i have even searched the China wholesalers websites for ones with suitable length cable at a reasonable cost, you have to buy 1000's of the things to get a decent rate that would make it viable (for me anyway) to ship them over to punt them out cheaply.

my advice is throw them in the bin and use powerpole or weatherseal connectors depending on the rating of amps you need. one of the very best ones for plugging in and out is a simple 'jack' like you find on the end of wallwart power plugs.
