Best mates
Do you have a best mate?
I really don't. As I get older, I have fewer and fewer friends; I've always abandoned groups of friends every few years but as I get older I'm less inclined to replenish them. |

Re: Best mates
I have a best mate Taylor, I've know him since I was 18 we don't see each other like we used too as he's got kids but we still regularly go to gigs together and its always a good laugh. I'd go out of my way to do anything for him.
There are guys I've met through the forum that I love to bits and would go out of my way for them. Not gonna say names but hopefully they know who they are...

Re: Best mates
Strangely enough it was one of your posts about sitting drinking beer with your mate that made me ask this question

Re: Best mates
No best mates, same as you. I do have good friends, but since the kids arrived, our lives are so busy, we don't have time.
Me and my best mate fell out when we about 16

Best mates
Yep, two equally best mates who I've known since primary school. We've all grown up to get married & have kids etc but always found time to keep in touch. We all lost touch with other friends but something kept the three of us together all this time (we're all 32/33 now).
A few weeks ago our three suddenly became two when my friend unexpectedly fell ill and died. It's left a huge hole that will never be filled. Not everyone will have a 'best friend', but if you have mates that you genuinely care about i would implore you make time for that phone call/visit that you keep meaning to make but maybe don't seem to have the time for. We're all guilty of sometimes putting off today what can wait until tomorrow. I won't be doing that anymore. |

Re: Best mates
I've always been a loner so, no, I don't have any mates as such, let alone a best mate. Really I don't like most people I meet so I can't be arsed to make the effort any more. At age 67, my tolerance level for ar$eholes is essentially nil these days.
The last person I could call a mate died from a heart attack 12 years ago.

Re: Best mates
There have been a few who I have been able to call life long friends from school age... about half of whom are still kicking... and a few more who are more recent. It's a job staying in touch, but we all manage to come together for a few weeks at Christmas and a week at Easter.

Re: Best mates
I have one female friend who has been a good friend since I was 16, we see each other less frequently now but keep in touch regularly. I'd call her my best mate.
I prefer to make new friends depending on where I am at in my life. I had a whole gaggle of girlfriends at school and by 21 I'd lost touch with all of them without regret. Same with former colleagues, get on really well but when they move on I rarely keep in touch. Even a couple of good friends on here have recently got to the stage where speaking to them became more irritating than pleasurable so I made the conscious decision to end the friendship and I'm happier without them in my life.
