Random headlight problem.

Been having a fault with the main headlights on my curvy, one side stopped working, then both, then they were both fine, then one stopped & now today both have gone. Clocks, indicators, parking light & Hi-beam are all fine....

I've had a look under the seat & can't see any wires rubbing & cleaned the connectors on the the back of the lights.

Is there something I'm missing?

I'm going to replace the bulbs, are these worth a go?

Bulbs often mess about when the filaments are old and get knocked about.
Dint recognise the make .
Philips super brilliance are v good .
Work colouge has these in ther Nissan

Never heard of them but at £7 odd a pair I'm pretty certain they will be poor quality. Anything that relies on a coloured filter to give them 'brilliance' are crap IMO, as a filter does one thing only, reduces the amount of light allowed out of the bulb and so reduces light on the road.

Get some quality uprated CLEAR bulbs, such as OSRAM Nightbreakers or Phillips X-tremes to see a difference.

Not sure that changing the bulbs will solve your intermittent problem, it sounds more like a wiring fault than the bulbs.

Reckon there's been a dodgy connector in that plug (earth tape) as it looks like its been bypassed.

It might be worth having a gander to check the others.

There are 2 block connectors, one either side of the centre fairing (take both side panels off).

From memory one of green and one yellow. The wiring for the headlights run through these, and a corroded block, or dodgy wire going into the block can cause these symptoms.

Though as you've found one to have been bodged heavily that'd be where I'd start

Bingo!

Had the sides off again, one block was rusty & cracked, new one in and I had one light working for about 5 mins then nothing.... got out the multimeter, power & circuits are fine so out came the bulbs & both are gone. Quick trip to the car shop & new bulbs are working fine, dunno for how long though.... time to start looking for a new loom me thinks!
