Big Oil strikes again. I'll put money on it that oil companies were threatening to pull sponsorship and technical assistance. The oil companies are terrified of electrification. I see their sabotaging tactics all the time as an EV driver. BP and Shell are notorious for installing chargers that never work, hoovering up grant money and not providing benefit.

I'd say you're spot on there Mike. You only need to look at the absolutely eye watering sums of money the fossil fuel companies are spending on stopping or delaying environmental actions from being implemented to understand exactly the depths to which they will go to enable them to keep on hoovering up their vast profits.
