Default SV1000: Things to do.

So I've got this SV1000, and I have a list of things to do, but does anyone else have experience of this or something they think I should be doing?
  • Check wiring from stator to reg/rec and prob replace from reg/rec to direct battery as the connectors can burn up as mine did
  • Green connector is a must you don't want that one going wrong (need to find out what this is).
  • Testing the stator is a good idea.
  • Clutch basket mod is another good idea (need to look this up).
  • Cloudy clutch fluid seems to be a common problem but not always the first culprit, many say replace the seals on the slave cylinder but I found my cloudyness was actually from the line, replaced to stainless and problem solved (Its got braided hoses, but I'm not happy with the 3 line system).
  • Tre is a nice simple mod but if you got the cash a gipro gear indicator with built in tre is a nice alternative (Anyone used a GiPro before?)
  • Add a switch for dealer mode - comes in handy (is this just to get the warning codes up?)

Ask Skip, but one of his mods was to fit a Power Commander and get it mapped.

Smooths out the power delivery and makes it a much more pleasant bike to ride.

don't know if a custom map would achieve the same, for less money?

I've seen a plug in mod that smooths out the power delivery - http://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/xtre/
Along with the GIpro, which is a gear indicator with TRE mod.

Power Commander is nice but not really a must - I was just used to a Honda Blackbird so after than the SV1000 felt a bit lacking lol

In my grand old age now I would channel my funds into nice suspension

^^ This ^^
PLUS Balance your throttles, then balance them again then once more for luck. Runs like a 3 legged donkey if they are out. A bloody quick donkey but still lumpy. Balance around the interestign moment you get around 3k.

As for all the other stuff, I've never had to do any of it. Maybe it'll go up in flames next time I ride it but I'd recommend spending your time riding it and balancing your bodies instead.

Yep, seen them on there, about 300 is the best I can see for the latest model. About half that for a second hand or salvaged one, though they all seem to be from the states.

I bought my Z750 Power Commander from the States second-hand - worked a treat and much cheaper than I could get one in the UK.
