I can honestly say that on my last visit, in 1988, it was bloody marvellous. Don't get out there as often as I might of course...

Yep its that good -but the chippy in Pittenweem (the village before anstruther) is even better-I lived there a few years ago and lived off of that chippy

Yeah I know Pittenweem too. I is a walking encyclopedia of the fishing villages of Fife

Was St Andrews ever a fishing village? That is how bad my thirst for local knowledge has become.

The Anstruther chippie is supposed to be the best in Scotland and 2nd in the UK. Huge queues as well

But I am not thinking it is special like. Wouldnt know unless told.

No...it's not that good. Changed hands about 2 years ago (maybe more) not as good as it was with the original owners. Last time we went it was about £9 for a fish supper. Pittenweem chippy better and the one in Bridge of Alan is better than them both.

They expanded it didn't they? We used to go through the east neuk on holiday all the time, and it was ace back then, but I'm sure it was smaller too.

How's teh Golden Fry in Biggar these days?

I was in the 'Enster one recently & had a 'small' fish supper at lunchtime. 1st I've been in for a long long time & so don't know the history.

I didn't like it. It's very much personal opinion whether you like the oil they use for the batter.
The one in Crail was good, but closed now I think.

it used to be SUPPPPEEEERRRRRRPPP before the original owners sold up and moved to spain...that was a couple or so years ago now...
still good though...

best chippy just now for me is Bonjio's (something like that)
and its cheap compared to annstruthers one!
in inverkip...you can see it when going to/from largs when on main road...
