Well it's been rumoured long enough.
Now it's time to break open the piggy bank.

Nice start, but I would need to take the angle grinder to sever parts of that.

Still suffers from non-existent front mudguard and too much gap between top of rear tyre and underside of the seat that most bikes seem to nowadays. Is it too much to expect a decent hugger at this level of bike. I must admit I looked at Striple before I bought AL7 and could not get on with the styling, and would rather have a new SV than a second hand Striple. There is only so much performance you can use on UK roads without ending up in court or A&E, maybe that's why litre bikes are not so popular these days.

I know I'm getting old....I just keep thinking why do we need the extra cc's? It's not as if anyone on the road actually uses the full potential of their bike...

The midrange Ducati sportsbike now has a greater displacement than their famous 916. Come to think of it the Street now has a bigger engine than the Superbikes from the 90s. Does extra power REALLY make a bike better?

Triumph wanted to keep the power output similar to previous models but also needed to meet Euro 4 regulations which is why they bumped the capacity.

I still frequent the Triumph forums and judging by the number of people that say the Speed triple is underpowered (!) I can see why Triumph have upped the output of the new Street.

I still prefer the high pipes but realise that system was too heavy.

Front mudguard? For Arizona/California; yes, for anywhere with rain; no.

Would I buy one? Maybe - I've owned one Street (a 2012 model) and had no mechanical problems in 9k miles, but it wasn't very economical even when ridden slowly. You could argue (correctly) that you don't buy one to ride slowly but I did and I got 50 mpg whereas the new SV is getting over 70 mpg. They are claiming 60 mpg for the 765.

This is the engine that will form the basis of the 2019 Moto2 bikes, I'll be curious to see how it stands up to the rigours of racing.
