Too similar to the 560, plus it vibrates like a road drill in a washing machine, nowhere near the touring ability of the big 990

I've always had a soft spot for the big Adventure, it's ugly as sin but I like the KTM ethos with their bikes and I want to go and see some different places, the 990 is the better bike for going to the elephant rally in Jan, then Morocco in April then who knows where later in the year. The "ride reports" forum over at ADVRider has caught my imagination

well was being nice and didn't want to comment on the looks.....

see your point , but then I did most of europe on roadsters of one kind or another up until about 15 years ago, the last was an aprila 650 pegaso, which managed a 1,700 mile round trip without a problem.

Cheers Mark.

How much gravel track, rocks, mud and river crossings with rocky beds did you do during those trips though?

I'm not intending to stick to paved roads, hence a bike with knobbly wheels. The pirellis fitted to the ADV are more than capable of scraping the panniers on the road, and far more capable than any regular road tyre off it, so they're a good compromise

If I'd wanted to tour the nicely paved bits of europe and slightly beyond I'd have bought something like the SMT, same engine but more road biased, but tbh the ADV is more than capable of handling the road sections, while being capable of some heavy duty off-road riding too, it's a compromise, but not one that will limit my riding anywhere...
