Well, I had my first IAM ride today....and it went really well

Tbh I didnt think I rode very well, but then my confidence is pretty low at the mo so I guess thats about right but my observer (Peter) seems to think there is hope!! After only a short rideout its obvious that its all down to my road positioning. My observations arent too bad but by adjusting my road position I can give myself more warning and more time to react, hopefully preventing me from having the panic reactions and making the errors that I have been making, and which have been making me question whether I can and should be riding.
So im feeling happier already, and cant wait to get back on the bike to start practising what hes shown me. Next week we are going to be out for a few hours so he'll be scrutinising me more closely, but im sure its going to make an enormous difference. The only downside was getting caught in a dreadful hailstorm which really stung, and I did feel bad cos his Harley got wet and dirty!!!

Well, I have a year to take their test, but tbh im not too bothered about that, its the training im interested in, if I pass the test then thats a bonus. They normally reckon about 4-6 observed rides and you should be test standard but can have up to 12 I think. The idea is to do an observed ride then have a few weeks to practise his recommendations before the next ride. For me this is ideal because im hoping that learning it over a long period will make it stick permanently rather than having a couple of full days training which I think I would implement for a while then return to my old bad habits.

Yeah and then he starts lecturing you on where to position yourself!

Have they given you a copy of the bible (advanced motorcycling guide) yet? It makes excellent bed time reading but it is food for thought...

I'm going to be very quiet this year, no bike, lots of renovation work to do etc etc. Looking for a project bike too.
