Default Hi from new member - I want to do a cafe racer

Hi Everyone,

Just joined and will be lurking a bit as I am thinking of doing a cafe racer using the curvy SV as the base. So all the usual questions as I try to work out whether what I want to do is feasible and won't cost an arm and a leg. I am thinking naked (though I do like a small half fairing), new rear subframe, new rear seat/bodywork, possibly new instruments (see above) and some lovely USD forks plus a small stubby exhaust can sitting as low as possible. So nothing super fancy.

Does anyone have a recommendation on the exhaust or do I look to cut/ adapt the pipe after the collector thing and plumb in one?

If anyone is looking to sell a decent bike dirt cheap in a few months I'd like to know and if that had GSXR forks that would be a bonus.

I am in Bucks, near Uxbridge. Previous bikes include a 2000 Triumph Daytona and an RRS Honda Fireblade with a bit of a gap between them.

Cheers,

David

Hi and welcome!

TamSV built a pretty beautiful curvy cafe racer a few years ago. He recently sold it actually

Here is his thread. Although it looks like most of the pictures don't work anymore because of photobucket

Thanks Darren,

Much appreciated; I love reading through and finding out how people did things. There are some really nice bits to this bike though I would have tried to mount the headlight closer into the forks and possibly a bit lower.

Cheers,

David

Fantastic read! I took a few hours to go through it yesterday. I laughed at his comment regarding the US riders huge garages and tool sets. My equivalent is a shed though I do have a bench, power and a working vice!

Cheers,

David

Hi GT Alex,

Sounds equally interesting. I am still waiting on budgetary approval but have a reasonably good idea of what I want to achieve. Have you made your own subframe and seat unit or used/ adapted the original?

Cheers,

David

I have made the subframe to fit a seat I bought online. All electrics fit on the seat pan under the padded part, except the regulator which is exposed on the underside. the battery is a lithium item under the hump.
I will try to attach a picture. I tried yesterday but it didn't work
