Avon Storm or Conti Road Attack
Simple question, Which is better in the wet? The bike is mainly used for commuting so I want something with good wet grip on crappy roads

Re: Avon Storm or Conti Road Attack
Well I'm well happy with my Conti's in all weather as I ride all year, last set got me 9k out of a rear. I have no idea what the Avon's are like.

Re: Avon Storm or Conti Road Attack
Storms are a mile better than any other tyre I have tried in the wet. This includes the Attacks which I thought were quite good. Really, I was very suprised at how good they were.

Re: Avon Storm or Conti Road Attack
The Storms are alleged to be a hard wearing tyre and give good mileage. I have a set currently fitted to the wheels of the dullsville. They've done about 2500 miles so far and can't really see any signs of wear at all.

Re: Avon Storm or Conti Road Attack
I have RA's fitted to mine, done 2k on them now and they still have tons of tread left!!
I think both Storms & RA's are good, just get whichever is the cheapest To be honest i went with RA's because i like the pattern Im a tart i know....................... |

Re: Avon Storm or Conti Road Attack
As Si says, the Storms are better in the wet as they actually seem to work the same as in the dry, although other makes are good in the wet, you do have to re-learn their wet weather character.
Currently the T'bird is sitting on Storms wiht just over 8,000 miles on them and probably 1,000 or two left, to give you some idea. The Attacks, well good dry performance and good wet (if not to those standards of the Storms), slightly cheaper to buy and give slightly more feedback than the Storms (if that's your thing). I prefer the Z6's to the Attacks, but both are about the same, as you say "wet riding" then the Storms are the best option currently available IMHO. Cheers Mark.

Might have to have a look at the price of the storms next set swap, though maybe something else will come along then.

Re: Avon Storm or Conti Road Attack
I have the Storms. Love them, although not the mileage, mine have started squaring at 4.5k!!!!!!!!! But then again I commute on one of the finest parts of the A38 that Worcestershire has to offer!!!!

Re: Avon Storm or Conti Road Attack
Had Vipers (as a wee summer treat for the SV last year) before the Storms and they are night and day in the wet (err, most days!).
Could not believe how much better the Storms were. Work immediately. Winter or summer. Will give a lot better mileage too I'll bet. Been using Storms on a GSX14 for a few years and get between 3-5k. Love'em. Would expect nearer 5k for the SV. I don't do Conti's. Cheaper than Avons though. |
