Default SV running rough, cutting out

My SV650S K6 started running roughly last night on my way home from work. When I got home it was dark but I turned the idle up a bit to see if that would help.

If anything it has made it worse! This morning on the ride to work it was cutting out at traffic lights and needed constant revving when not on the go.

Unfortunately at this time of year it's pitch black by the time I get in from work so I'll likely be working in the dark to improve things. In order to not waste time it would help if I could approach things in a systematic manner.

I thought I'd firstly check the air-box to make sure nothing died in it. After that I may change the plugs - I know you can get 2 different types for the SV depending on temperature, maybe I should switch to the hotter running plug in this weather. Finally I'll stick the battery on the charger overnight to see if that helps.

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Cheers!

Whats the bike idleing at? i tend to keep mine (as do many) about 1400 - 1500 rpm

Wet front plug could also be a possibility.

No - its fuel injected, no manual choke.

Has it been wet at all?check the front spark plug lead is not letting water in. I wonder also if you may have an air leak or something

You shouldnt need to use another type of spark plug, CR8E's (iirc) are fine all year round. However, if your spark plugs are old and nasty, that wont help!

It was idling around 1100 but last night I increased the idle to around 1500-1700 and it's running worse

We've had a lot of rain recently and it's not been covered up, additionally I've cycled to work a few days in a row so it was stood around for a bit so water in the plug is a possibility - just didn't fancy changing them in the dark

The plugs are 6 months old - I don't think that's particularly old...

Will pick up some new plugs and see if that helps. I'm at work so will ask my girlfriend to get some for me.

Is it NGK CR8E it takes?
