Default Has anybody else fitted an S1000rr shock?

I fitted an S1000rr rear shock into my pointy k8, I'm having trouble setting it up into anything but kick up the backside mode.

So my question is:

Has anybody else fitted one and if so how did you find the ride and were you able to set the shock up for use on the sv?

Should add that I weigh 175 lbs with gear and the s1000rr shock is a 2010 so 315mm long with spring rate similar to zx10r 06-07 shock, I have recently fitted 35mm raising dog bones to get rear ride height back to stock which hasn't helped the link ratio. Hope that's enough info! I know the best answer is simply buy an ohlins etc however that simply isn't viable at the moment.

I would guess that the rear shock you have fitted is far to short and then raising the rear with longer dog bones has made the problem even worse. Nitron are a little cheaper than Ohlins.

Have you been thru and played with the damping rates?

Sounds like at least the compression is too harsh.

pointy sv does not like a stiff back end as it has a rising rate linkage so for every (aprox) 2mm the swingarm rises the shock only moves 1mm.

first is static sag = 10-15mm for road and 5-10mm for race

rider sag should then fall a total of between 30-40mm for road and 25-35mm for race

dont be stupid and think that a race setup is going to work for use on the road as it wont and you will end up hop, skipping and jumping all over the place.

once you have done that then set the rebound using the bounce test. push down on the rear of the bike and watch the rate at which it rises back up. it should be a medium fast rise and should match the front which you can test by sitting on the bike and bouncing up and down. if you have a standard front end with the original springs/oil then you want to back off on the com/reb on the shock or you will end up noddy at the front.

compression can only be done by riding the bike but always set it slightly soft due to the linkage.

Any updates?

Was looking at S1000RR shocks as these are more common/available in Europe.

Did you need to make any adjustments or was it straight bolt on?

If you don't want to spend Nitron/Ohlins money then pick up a Hagon or YSS shock that's actually designed for the bike for a little over £200.

I've been running my Hagon for the last 3 years/40k miles and it's been spot on.

I think the answers are all already in the first post.
If you're looking for a cheap shock, there are plenty of suitable ones without going down the Hagon/Nitron/Ohlins route. If it's about the right length and the right spring rate it should work. There are lists compiled by helpful people all over the internet to help you compare.
I think mine was from a K4 GSXR 600, but this is by no means the only good match. It doesn't sound like the S1000RR is one though.
