Kenzie, I'm thinking of fixing my Contax IIa, have you got some info or links for that? The shutter is slow, and the slow speeds and sticky, also the RF windows are filthy. I don't know what else I might find, or what else I should do, while it's in bits.

Just be careful of any shims under the lens mount screws. Once the shutter is separated from the body everything is easy to get at. Be careful to engage the self timer mech properly when putting it back together.

Cool thanks. I had another look just now, I guess I should check the faster speeds as it snaps nicely, but at 1/10 or slower it sticks (you can here the clockwork starting and stopping), although sometimes it just snaps without any delay at all. The self- timer (a favourite of yours I know) seems fine - just tried it to see how grotty things are inside.

The second one is good, but I notice it's a II not a IIa, any idea if there is going to be a lot of difference for what I'm doing?

I don't unfortunately. I've only ever worked on my Kiev 4. I think there is a screw under the leatherette on the left as you look at the front, but not sure i f that is just a Kiev thing.

Managed to bag a Minolta to M42 adapter from ebay for £9 odd plus post. These normally go a lot higher so I'm happy with that. Will likely use it on one of my spare SRT cameras. Johnny, did you have a look at the Contax in the end?

Not yet, I think I've got my nerve up now though! Might have a look later, but I need to weedkiller the patio. I want to check the fast speeds first as well, not got around to it yet.

After seeing you tearing apart the shutter on my Voigtlander the Contax looks easy! Nothing like the Kiev though, the rangefinder mech has a long bit of glass running across the top of the housing. I must admit, the Kiev less the meter is probably one of the nicest looking cameras I own.
