Historic echoes

History does seem to repeat and no lessons are learned. I remember watching the Apollo launches and being enthralled at the spectacle but at the same time there was rioting in the US (over Vietnam and the Kent State shootings).

Forward on 50 years, I'm watching SpaceX launch and still get excited...
...and America is rioting again.

Another echo perhaps: For the Apollo era Nixon was president and crooked, 50 years on Trump is president.

The echoes are strong, aren't they? Let's hope that one way or another, Trump's presidency comes to an end without him winning a second term.

Another echo: this is the final paragraph of Hunter S Thompson's obituary of Nixon:
