Default Hard hitting films

Following on from Private Ryan and film in schools, I watched requiem for a dream the other day. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0180093/

and wow, why wasnt that film shown at school as part of drug education, it is so powerful. I think it would deter many from taking drugs. maybe, maybe not, but it would put doubt in the mind, so a 50/50 kid might swing towards no rather than yes.

If you havent seen it, watch it.

And last night I watched Network
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074958/

Another hard hitting film, very prophetic, much like 1984 (the book) There are some great monologs in it, makes you want to open up the window and shout 'I'm a human being, goddamn it! My life has value!'

Check out an 80's BBC production called 'Threads'

Documents a family's struggle pre and post nuclear holocaust.

Very very scary.

Theres a korean film called 'sympathy for lady vengance' it all rolls along quite nicely until a certain point in the film ( dont want to spoil it if you,ve not seen it ) and than it just goes off on one, literally in seconds.

I've got that on DVD. I made the mistake of watching it one evening before going out. By the time I'd finished watching it, I didn't really feel like going out anymore.

There's an old BBC film from the 60s along the same lines, called The War Game. It's far cruder, and rather dated, but as a comprehensive demolition of the government of the time's line on nuclear strategy, it's solid gold. And not a little unnerving.

Part of the same trilogy as Oldboy (which is also pretty brutal) - I've got Lady Vengeance sitting around waiting to be watched but haven't got round to it.

Yeah, saw it a couple of years ago and again when the mrs watched it on TV (wasn't expecting it to be her cup of tea!)

The violence in Oldboy is nothing compared to the twisted ending. Fantastic.
