Default Re: Tyres - "Pilot Road 4" or new "Road 5"?

I've slid the back with my PR4s a few times now.. even in the dry. But I think that's me being a bit heavy footed. They don't feel as amazing as I was expecting. I had some sporty Maxxis things on there before that were terrible in the wet or cold. Difficult to compare the PR4s to them though as where I avoided the wet and cold with the Maxxis' fitted, I tend to use the bike more than I used to in a mixture of conditions with the PR4s on, so maybe that's a sign that they are better / I have more confidence in them.

I have had one very wet ride out with the PR4s fitted and they handled the wet roads ok, but it was a fairly warm day. Maybe temperature affects them (or tyres in general) more than wet roads do?

I had Metzler Z8s originally but found the rear slid a few time on damp or wet roads typically when speeding up coming off a roundabout etc. Also once spun the rear just when accelerating at around 50 mph. When those wore out I went for PR4s which I've used ever since.

fair enough like I said I wouldn't fit them far too expensive and I'd trust the continentals far more on my thou not found them overly lacking ill check what model they are though.

Update. I intended to go for Pilot Road 4 at the front again, then switch to Road 5 for the rear which will be in around six month. In the event I've ended up with a Road 5 front, so will soon see how it behaves. I'd really like them to last a bit longer.

For info. I have had PR5's on my bike since launch. Front has 10 thou on it with about 3mm tread left the rear got a discarded vape pen through it but it had 5 or 6mm left after 7 thou.

Grip was good even in minus temperatures and moderately quick acceleration in the cold and wet gave me no concerns. A first gear anger-induced twisting of the throttle simply squirreled the rear in the cold. I am a convert.
I rate them as a 12 thousand mile tyre with reasonably quick commuting type riding, very predictable and confidence inspiring and quick to warm up. Just my view.
