Default Engine numbers=? year

Hi all, noob here.

Just picked up a tired racing SV to race and need to know how to tell what year it is.

The numbers are there and the three previous owners (first was original but crashed and totaled it) have siad it is a 99, 01 or 02.

The numbers are all there on engine and frame. Engine hasa been swapped and there is no paperwork for it ( I checked with the police and it is not stolen).

How can I find out what year it is? Is it that important when it comes to replacement parts? It is carburetted not F.I. so I know F.I stuff will not work.

ANyway- it has a GSXR 750 front end, a ZX6r rear shock and other than that is bone stock. Is there a site with numbers that correspond to year? Any help- I searched and found nothing.

the begining of the vin will indicate year. X=99 Y=2000 not sure about k1 and k2...maybe k1 and k2? Most all first gen stuff is exactly the same (99-02). What are you looking to replace?

Haynes manual relates engine numbers to the year of manufacture. That is
how I found out mine was a K1 although it was first registered new june 2003.
