Watch out for this scam everyone
So I had a call to my home phone today from a chap with a very strong Indian accent. He claimed to be from windows, and informed me that there was a problem with my computer and that it was constantly sending error messages back to windows and constantly downloading malicious spam. All sounded suspicious from the get go but wanted to see where he was going with this.
He asked me to sit in front of my computer and run Event Viewer Snapin Launcher. Alarm bells starting ringing and before I hit okay I quickly did a google search on my phone and found this thread. http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/0012096248818 So it turns out others have had the same call. If you get this call, just hang up. It's spam, and they are trying to access your computer remotely and who knows what else. Just a heads up people. |

Re: Watch out for this scam everyone
My friend does a public service by trying to keep them on the phone as long as possible pretending to do what they say. Then eventually letting slip that he's using an Apple or something else. Has had some good sessions with them where they have eventually lot their cool.

That's been going on for years, not a new scam by any means

They called me about 3 years ago. Told them I was running AIX 6 on a Babbage difference engine. They got a bit confused.

Re: Watch out for this scam everyone
Someone my wife worked with had someone phone her up like this. She didn't own a computer. The person on the line kept insisting and eventually gave up.

About 5 calls last year then nothing until I got a call yesterday. And twice today. Told then to F off each time and to take me off their database. They will try to get you to run a program that puts a Trojan on your system.
