Default Gravel

What is it with loose gravel etc on the roads at the moment? Twice yesterday I had proper @rse-clenching moments on patches of gravel / loose stones strewn across corners several miles apart on Derbyshire roads.

As they in 'Aliens': 'Stay frosty and alert.'

Loads of it here too. The roads are breaking up and the debris is ending up as loose crap at the bottom of hills and on junctions.

The first one was on the B5053 to Hartington, and the other on the B5055 to Bakewell. Both often have random cow-pats / gravel / mud patches in inconvenient places so I'm always a bit wary on both roads, but they're especially bad right now.

We have gravel along the middle of all roads and across middles of junctions here, left over from the last loose dressing the council did about two years ago. Makes all the lines and positions you need to be in on a bike lethal.

It could be worse, in Thornhill near Hope it appears a disgruntled resident has been spreading drawing pins all other the road, I presume they have a dislike of cyclists.

Break up from winter roads and poorly executed road dressing, exacerbated by the lack of any cleaning and day to day maintenance of our road network... we all pay in the end, if not collectively, then individually through damage to our own vehicles.
