Default Anyone with experience of a ZX-6r ?

As a few of you will have picked up from my posts on here, I'm looking to buy my first bike and pretty much am set on an SV, hence making myself at home on here in recent weeks.

However, I've been looking about and there are some nice zx 6r s in my budget on ebay (98-00 G1/2s) and I was wondering what peoples thoughts on them as a first bike are. This isn't a comparison to an SV, and I expect most here would say an SV over a Ninja as a first bike, but what do people think of them? I've wanted one since I was a kid but I'm worried that it would be an invitation to get scraped off the floor.

I'm probably going to buy an SV after my holiday next week as was the plan, but in the mean time any thoughts/comments are appreciated.

Are you a recent test pass? If so are you on a restricted licence?

The SV is a good bike restricted, the ZX6 would feel like it had been castrated.

True, but if you're not restricted .....The G1 is the best motorcycle in the world

It's easier to ride as you're not going to have the V twin locking up the rear. It's not knife edge fast like the latest SS600s. there's absolutely no more reason you'll need scraped up from a G1 than an SV (although insurance may be more expensive)

Quality choice, hurry up & get one

I'm recent pass but 22 so not restricted, I do want to make a sensible choice though rather than just the fastest thing I can afford.

Good advice above ive had three zx6rs one g2 and two j2s, stocking bike, engine sounds / ram air sounds fab when singing at 14,000rpm comfy for a sports bike, the svs more suited for people who have recently passed there test, bare in mind the zx6r is a genuine 150+ mph bike...

I'd feel a lot safer on an ZX6r doing 150 with proper sports suspension & proper brakes (6 piston cf. 2) than doing 140 on an SV. For the record I've never gone faster on the ZX than I've gone on the SV
